Local Teen Wins Food Network BBQ Contest

Franklin resident and Battle Ground Academy student Madison Melnyk appeared on the Food Network show “Kids BBQ Championship,” which aired this week.

Melnyk taped the show back in January but she and her family had to keep her appearance on the show under wraps until recently.

The rising Freshman has a passion for food and attempted to be a contestant on “Chopped Jr.” but was unsuccessful. Food Network contacted Melynk when it came time to find contestants for their Kids BBQ Championship show.

During the show, the contestants were asked to cook bison steak and grilled potatoes. Melynk never lost her focus throughout the show which leads to her winning a prize of $10,000.

When we asked how she spent her money, she told us she was saving most of it but spent a small portion on a new guitar, a trip to Sephora, and made a donation to Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital.

The Food Network champion will be offering summer cooking camps during the month of July called Junior Chef Academy. For more information, email [email protected].
