The man who died in a crash Monday at the I-65 Concord Road off-ramp has been identified as Robert J. Gillespie, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The 53-year-old Gillespie left the right side of the road heading north at 11:36 a.m., and went up an embankment before leaving the ground and hitting a bridge. His car landed on its roof and slid across the Concord off-ramp.
The THP report identified him as a Brentwood resident; however, an obituary for him called him a Franklin resident.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played any part in the crash, according to the THP.
According to his obituary, Gillespie, a former U.S. Army paratrooper, worked as a polysomnographic technician in Nashville. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, a son, Keegan, and a daughter, Grace.
