Local Players Awarded TSWA All-State Honors

This week, the Tennessee Sportswriters Association announced their All-State teams, as voted on by the TSWA. Local programs placed players on the 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, Division II-A and II-AA teams.

On the 3A team, three CPA Lions were selected. Quarterback Zack Weatherly, cornerback Price Perdue, and athlete Chip Omer were all named first teamers. On the 4A team, Page’s Brent Cimaglia was named the punter.

On the Division II-A team, BGA and FRA combined to place 7 players on the All-State team. For BGA, quarterback Clay Beathard, wide receiver Marcus Cawthorne, and linebacker Patrick Wells received honors. FRA had offensive lineman Ben Jackson, athlete Sam Harvin, linebacker Spence Jones, and defensive back Larry Wilhoite were named to the All-State team.

On the Division II-AA team, Brentwood Academy led all schools with 8 selections. The Eagles had quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall, wide receiver Camron Johnson, offensive tackles Bryce Mathews and Ryan Johnson, kicer Isaac Way, defensive lineman Brandon Adams, and defensive backs Evan Beddoe and Chris Hopkins. Father Ryan also had two players named to the All-State team, with defensive lineman Jeremy Darvin and punter Anthony Hagey receiving honors.

On the 5A team, state champion Independence and Centennial had 5 and 3 selections respectively. For the Eagles, quarterback Andrew Bunch, wide receiver Nate Johnson, offensive lineman Pete Dorsten, defensive lineman Chris Beavers, and defensive back Cole Huner. Cougars receiving honors include offensive linemen Nate Wilkinson and Eli Katina and linebacker/running back Tyrel Dodson.

6A state champion Ravenwood had 5 players honored on the All-State team. Athletes Chris Rowland and Andrew Lutgens, kicker Crews Holt, defensive lineman Jordan Moore, and linebacker John Thompson all received TSWA All-State Honors.

This year was a banner year for Williamson County area football teams, with 12 schools reaching the playoffs, 4 teams reaching their respective Blue Cross Bowls, and 3 state champions. Individually, 9 local players were Mr. Football Semi-Finalists, with Tyrel Dodson and Crews Holt bringing home Mr. Football honors. In all, 32 local players were named to the TSWA All-State teams.  Congratulations to all honorees and teams for tremendous seasons.
