Sara Samoray, from the Bat Working Group http://www.tnbwg.org, will talk about bats in Tennessee.  She will start with general bat biology and and why bats are important to the ecosystem. She will also describe the species we find in Tennessee, how they are affected by White Nose Syndrome (WNS), and what people can do to help the bats in their neighborhood.  She will include information on making bat houses to give bats safe secure places to live.

The Tennessee Bat Working Group was formed in 2004 to study and exchange of information relative to the conservation, biology, ecology, and management of bats and their habitats on all state, federal, and private lands within the state of Tennessee. The goal of the TNBWG is to conserve bats and their habitats in the southeastern United States through collaborative research, education, and management with a focus on bat research, conservation, education, and management within the state of Tennessee.

Tennessee’s Impact Craters
Wed, Jun. 25
6:30 p.m.
Since the birth of our solar system, meteorites have been hurling around space smashing into the various planets, the moon, and earth. When they finally do hit another heavenly body, not only do they demonstrate the laws of physics, they definitely leave a mark – an impact crater. It wasn’t until the 20th Century, initiated by the NASA moon missions, that scientists seriously considered the prospect that these celestial features are also found on earth. After scientists learned to recognize impact craters on earth, many have been located and studied. Two of those impact craters studied by NASA scientists are found in Tennessee.
