Artist & Songwriter Workshop, Plus Live Music

Join Darwin Moody, President of Embassy Music, at this free workshop for artists and songwriters.Moody tells us, “We will be discussing the craft of songwriting –  lyric, melody, what makes a great hook, and how songs get discovered. We will also be covering topics such as becoming an artist – the recording process, what labels are looking for in independent artists, marketing, promotion, etc. In addition, we will be having a few of our artists performing live during the event for your audience.”

The War of 1812, the Natchez Trace and Franklin

Tony Turnbow, local lawyer and past president of the Natchez Trace Parkway Association, will talk about how Franklin and the Natchez Trace played a role in the War of 1812.

Mr. Turnbow has practiced law in Franklin for over 29 years. He has served on the board of directors for several regional, statewide and local non-profit and civic organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Lewis and Clark Trust, Inc, and is also a member of the Tennessee War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. As an amateur historian, he has published articles related to the history of the Natchez Trace and written and produced a play about the death of explorer Meriwether Lewis.

Bullets and Bayonets Launch Party

WCPL and Academy Park Press are pleased to announce the publication of Bullets and Bayonets: A Battle of Frankin Primeran introduction for young people to the Battle of Franklin, one of the most decisive battles of the Civil War. Join us for a launch party to celebrate the debut of our latest publishing venture, just in time for the sesquicentennial anniversary of the battle. The launch event will feature President Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address at 2:30pm, Margie Thessin, author of Lizzie’s War, hands-on activities with a Civil War Traveling Trunk from the Tennessee State Museum, Civil War re-enactors, and much more. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
