Franklin now has a full-service bakery located just off Main Street in downtown Franklin. If you’ve enjoyed the sweet treats of Triple Crown Bakery at local farmers market, now you don’t have to wait for those market days, you can enjoy those sweets anytime.

After graduating from The California Culinary Academy (now Le Cordon Bleu) in San Francisco, Pastry Chef Alena Vaughn she began her career cooking at the Ritz Carlton and then baking at Zov’s Bistro & Bakery. Triple Crown Bakery

She and her family now call Franklin home and we sat down with her to learn more about when she started baking, what it’s like to own her own bakery, and one of her baking fails.

Can you tell us about your earliest baking memory?

My earliest baking memory is when my Mom decided to make decorated cookies for all her friends at Christmas time. She quickly lost interest in the decorating, so I took over the project, making each one unique.

What has it been like to open your bakery?

Having a brick-and-mortar has been both challenging and rewarding. Working from home allowed me to create my own schedule, and be there for my kids, but I was always in the kitchen and late at night. Now when I leave the bakery I am able to have more quality time with them.

Tell us about your typical day?

A typical day starts early, preparing the breakfast pastries. Everything is made fresh every morning. We then move on to filling the case with desserts and cookies and start baking cakes and cookies for special orders.

Triple Crown BakeryIn the past, you have sold your pastries at Farmers Markets, will you continue to do so?

We are no longer at farmers markets but will be participating in festivals and events like Wine Down Main Street and Dickens of a Christmas.

What items will you be offering daily?

Daily, we have breakfast pastries such as muffins, cinnamon rolls, and scones; cookies like chocolate chips, peanut butter, snickerdoodles, oatmeal, butter spritz and decorated cookies and desserts such as mini cakes and tarts as well as whole cakes.

All of your baked goods are amazing, but have you ever had a baking disaster?
I do have my share of baking disasters from time to time. Sometimes when multiplying a recipe, you can do your math wrong on one ingredient, and it goes terribly wrong!

Thanks so much to Alena for taking time out to talk with us. Triple Crown Bakery is located at 735 Columbia Avenue in the former Carnivore Market location.
