A juvenile is now in police custody, facing a string of charges after evading police, breaking into a home, and taking items from a local retail store in Spring Hill.

At 12:18 a.m. today, a Spring Hill Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a subject in Willowvale subdivision. When the officer activated his blue lights and siren, the motorist accelerated, apparently with the intent to evade the officer. The subject was driving at a high rate of speed and began to lose control of the vehicle. The subject hit two mailboxes, drove into two yards, and drove the vehicle through a garage at 2292 Dewey Drive. The subject then ran on foot from the officer and got away. The vehicle involved was confirmed stolen.

At 2:56 a.m., the police department received a call of a person asleep on the couch in a house at 2232 Dewey Drive. The responding officers determined that the sleeping person was the same subject who ran from the officer a few hours earlier. The young man, who was confirmed to be a juvenile, was taken into custody.

Subsequent to this investigation, officers located a laundry basket containing a large amount of Apple products. The juvenile admitted that he had used a sledgehammer to break into the front glass doors of the Target Super Center at 1033 Crossings Boulevard in The Crossings shopping center, in south Spring Hill. The juvenile went into the store’s electronics department and took $9,820 worth of Apple products.

The juvenile has been charged with the following: Runaway, Vandalism (3 counts), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Felony Evading, Criminal Trespass, Theft Over $500, Theft Over $1,000, Theft Over $10,000,and Burglary.
