Award-winning country music artist Jo Dee Messina, accompanied by her band, and comedian Victoria Jackson, best known for her popularity on Saturday Night Live, will perform during a benefit for Closer to Home, not-for-profit organization on Sunday, Oct. 2.
As residents of Williamson County, Messina’s and Jackson’s performances are on behalf of their neighbors in need.
Performances are set for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Green’s Grocery located at 4345 Old Hillsboro Road in Leiper’s Fork. The venue only seats 100 favored guests.
This marks the 17th year of non-stop service by Closer to Home, a 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation founded by Grammy-nominated and award-winning artist Michele Pillar, to raise funds for hard-working people in need of food, shelter, clothing, education and countless other needs as referred by third parties. The requests pour in daily, submitted by sources such as the Williamson County Juvenile Court System, Williamson County Schools and Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center and are usually fulfilled within 24 hours of the application.
Closer to Home is a neighbor-helping-neighbor effort, now reaching five Middle Tennessee counties.
“Simple things like gasoline or childcare costs for chemo patients are needs most of us will never experience,” Pillar said in a press release announcing this year’s event. “I am so thankful for the celebrities and patrons who keep CtH going with donations. I founded the effort in honor of my single mom. She would be very proud.”
Patron tickets are available now for $1,000 for two seats, which includes dinner, a gift bottle of wine courtesy of Cool Springs Wine and Spirits, and early entrance to the show. General admission tickets, which also include dinner and libations, go on sale Aug. 25th and are $125 per ticket by calling (615) 591-7292 or by visiting Serenite Maison in downtown Leiper’s Fork.

Previous performers have included Vince Gill, Michael McDonald, Steve Winwood, Keb Mo, Ricky Skaggs, Wynonna, Larry Carlton and Kix Brooks, among others.
