It is Quittin’ Time, Spring Hill

It is quitting time.

Spring Hill Mayor Rick Graham has proclaimed this Feb. 13-17 as a week dedicated to promoting smoking cessation.

It’s “Quittin’ Time in Tennessee,” is a state-wide campaign to promote the importance of and resources for quitting smoking in Tennessee communities.

Graham urges tobacco users to call the Tennessee Tobacco Quit Line and make a quit plan, or visit https://www.tn.gov/health/topic/FHW-tobacco.

The U.S. Surgeon General has said that smoking remains the single most preventable cause of premature death in our society. Smoking accounts for 430,000 premature deaths annually in the U.S., including the deaths of 11,400 Tennesseans.

About 5.6 million people under age 18 alive today will ultimately die from smoking unless smoking rates decline, with 125,000 of those deaths among Tennesseans.
