The Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey League is on a break until December. With one month of the season in the books, now is a good time to take a look around and see what is going on in the league: who are the teams to beat? Who are the players to look out for? What big games have been played and what games coming up in December are going to mean a lot to the standings?GNASH

There are 16 teams in the league, drawn from around Nashville. Since Hockey is a club sport, some teams pool players from more than one school. We are going to focus on teams with Williamson County athletes.

GNASH breaks into two leagues, Blue and Gold, each with eight teams. They play the season for seeding in the postseason double-elimination tournament. The winner of the league gets the Preds Cup.

Standings: Raptors New Team to Beat

So far this year, the Gold division has a new contender. Brentwood, who won the Preds Cup last year,  is in third place behind Ravenwood and Montgomery Bell Academy.

Gold

The Raptors are undefeated this year, at 5-0, and in a tie with MBA for first place with 10 points. They also lead GNASH in goals, with 33, averaging impressively more than six per game. Ravenwood and Brentwood played head-to-head last week, on Nov. 18, and the Raptors shutout the Bruins. The 4-0 win is something Brentwood will have to wait for the postseason to avenge as the teams do not play each other again in the regular season. It is big upset for Ravenwood. The Raptors next game is a big one. They play MBA for first place in the Gold league on Dec. 2 at SportsPlex A at 6:40 p.m. Chris Flynn leads Ravenwood with 9 points. He has 6 goals and 3 assists.

Brentwood is in third place in the Gold leage at 3-2 with 6 points. The Bruins are having no problem scoring goals so far this year, but are giving up more than three per game. On Dec. 4 they can get back on track in the standings with a win over MBA, who they play at 8 p.m. at SportsPlex B. Matthew Chalkley leads Brentwood with 14 points. He has 8 goals and 6 assists.

Father Ryan is in sixth place in the Gold league. The Fighting Irish are 1-4, with 2 points. They have a good shot at getting their second win of the season on Dec. 4 against the winless Tennessee Outlaws at Ford Ice at 6:15 p.m. Luke Tinsey leads Father Ryan with 8 points. he has 4 goals and 4 assists.

The Blue division has a surprise leader after a month of play. Lipscomb-Brentwood Academy, after finishing sixth in the Hines Cup tournament last year- the consolation tournament-, is undefeated at 5-0 with 10 points.

BlueLeague

Li-BA is winning with a stifling defense. They allow less than 2 goals per game, letting just eight pucks into the net in five games. On offense things are not exactly bad, either, as they are averaging five goals per game. Sean Hagan leads Lipscomb-BA, and GNASH, in points with 17 he has 6 goals and 11 assists.

On Dec. 2 Lipscomb-BA has a big game coming up for the standings against Station Camp-Beech at the SportsPlex at 8:30 p.m.. SC-B has 4 wins and a shoot out loss this year, good for a tie with Franklin for second place in the Blue division.

Speaking of Franklin, the Rebels are sitting pretty in second. They have 3 wins, a shoot out win and a loss, giving them 8 points. They are tied for the Blue league lead in scoring, averaging 5 goals per game, but on defense they give up 3 per game.  On Dec. 9 at 8:30 p.m. Franklin has a big game that could solidify its spot at the top half of the standings. The Rebels play fourth place Centennial at A-Game Sportsplex. Murphy Smith leads Franklin with 9 points- 3 goals and 6 assists.

Centennial is in fourth place at 3-2 with six points. The Cougars average a little more than 4 goals  per game and give up just under 3. Their next big game is against Franklin. In their first meeting this season on Nov. 11, the Cougars lost 6-4. Brandon Seymour leads Centennial in points with 8. He has 2 goals and 6 assists.

Independence-Summit is in sixth place, with a 1-4 record, and 2 points. I-S is averaging 2 goals per game, and giving up a little more than 4 per game. They have all break to prepare for their next opponent, and might need the whole time. They play Franklin at A-Game at 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 2. Conner Linkowski leads I-S with 5 points, 4 goals and 1 assist.

Hume Fogg-Page is in last place, at 0-5 with zero points. They are actually averaging more goals per game than Indy-Summit, at 2.25 per game, but defense is their biggest issue. HF-Page has given up a GNASH-high 34 goals in five games. They play 2-3 Ensworth-Oakland on Dec. 2 at Ford Ice, and will hope to right the ship against them. Caden Gersky leads HF-Page with 7 points. He has 3  goals and 4 assists.
