Men’s Basketball: After a trip to the NJCAA tournament last year, Columbia State is looking to make another run for the national championship. Through the first part of their schedule, Columbia State’s men’s basketball currently sits at 11-4, 5-3 in the Tennessee Community College Athletics Association. The Chargers are averaging over 99 points per game.

Through the first part of their schedule, Columbia State has six different players averaging double digit points per game, led by Adrian Hicks’ 16.8 points per game. On the boards, the Chargers are led by Marquise Williams’ 12.4 rebounds per game, good for 5th nationally in NJCAA. Columbia State leads the nation in steals per game, is ranked 2nd in free throws attempted per game, 3rd in offensive rebounds per game, and 4th in rebounds per game.

As the holiday break ends, Columbia State has 8 conference games remaining on the schedule. The Chargers final push begins on January 22 & 23, when they host Cleveland State and Chattanooga State on consecutive days.

Women’s Basketball: The young Lady Chargers have struggled to have the same hot start as the Charger men. Columbia State’s ladies have only one non-freshman player this year, sophomore Marlee Stevens. The Columbia State ladies are 4-11, 1-7 in TCCAA play. The Lady Chargers are averaging 55.1 points per game and giving up 68.1 points per game.

For the Columbia State ladies, Nechelle Turner is the only player averaging double digit points per game, at 11.3. Layken Coman is second on the team with 9.3 points per game. While the Charger ladies do not shoot many 3 pointers per game, they are connecting on 31% of their shots from outside, which is good for 72nd best nationally.

The Lady Chargers have already returned from the holiday break. Columbia State’s ladies have three non-conference games, on top of their remaining conference games they have prior to the men’s games.
