Help a Local Family Who Lost Everything in House Fire

On Feb 20th, longtime Fairview community members,Chris and Michael Oliphant, lost everything in a tragic house fire.

During last week’s winter storm, Michael Oliphant heard the wood stove pop as he was preparing to leave for work. He alerted Chris, urging him to get out of bed. The two immediately vacated the home. The fire started in the walls and within 15 minutes had spread throughout the entire home. The fire also spread to a shed behind the home. The fire destroyed everything, including Michael’s Harley Davidson motorcycle. They also lost their dog in the fire.

Chris’ sister-in-law Sarah Oliphant has started a GoFundMe page to help raise money and get the word out regarding items they need. They are accepting clothing and household items as well as furniture. Visit the GoFundMe Page here for an updated list on needed items and to give a monetary donation. Many items have already been donated and the family has raised over $1,000 so far.

Donated items can be dropped off at First Baptist Church, located at 7310 Overbey Road in Fairview. Currently, Michael and Chris are staying at a hotel, working on getting a trailer onto the land they own. They expect it will take a month before they can acquire a trailer.

Any donated items that they can’t use will be donated to GraceWorks West in Fairview.
