Halloween Guide: 6 Local Haunted Happenings

Halloween is just around the corner and as you are getting into the Halloween spirit, check out these local “haunted happenings”–there’s something for the person who loves to get scared and fun events for those looking for something more mild.

Creepy Hollow Haunted Woods
Where: 2133 Joe Brown Rd, Spring Hill, TN 37174
When: Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.through Oct 31
Cost: $20 per person, $5 for haunted hayrides, group rates available
Details: For adults and teens. Creepy Hollow offers haunted woods, haunted hayride and (new this year) a zombie maze.

Millers Thrillers
Where:1431 Carters Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401
When: 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  Fridays and Saturdays, through the 31st. On Octh 17th & 24th, they open one hour early (6:00pm).
Cost: $5 Entertainment Zone, $20 Haunted Woods, $20 Zombie Paintball Hayride, $30 Combo Pass
(you can also buy extra paintballs & Slash Pass Tickets–pay a little extra, skip the line. Learn more here). Oct. 30th & 31st are Church & Group Discount Nights. Any group of 15 or more people can receive $2 off any ticket.
Details: At Millers Thrillers, you can walk through the haunted woods trail, go on a hayride where you can shoot zombies with a paintball gun or hang out around the bonfire in the entertainment zone.

Watch ‘The Exorcist’ With Linda Blair
Where: Tennessee Performing Arts Center, 505 Deaderick Street, downtown Nashville

Cost: $35-$45
Details: Celebrate Halloween by joining Academy Award nominee and movie star Linda Blair (Regan) for a screening of the original, ultimate horror movie ‘The Exorcist’ at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Andrew Jackson Hall Immediately following the film, Blair will participate in a moderated discussion and audience Q&A in which she will share behind-the-scenes stories from the filming of the classic, worldwide phenomenon.

Tickets on sale now at TPAC.org, by phone at 615-782-4040, and at the TPAC Box Office, 505 Deaderick Street, in downtown Nashville. Doors open 6:30 pm.

Annual Haunted Museum Ghost Story Festival
Where:
Tennessee State Museum, 5th Avenue & Deaderick Street, downtown Nashville

Details: 
The event features a “ghost trail” through the museum with prizes, crafts, and refreshments. At stops along the ghost trail there will be chilling ghost stories from Tennessee’s past, including those of the Bell Witch, the Cherokee spirit Spearfinger, John Murrell’s thumb, and many other scary tales.

A popular stop along the trail is on the mezzanine which houses the museum’s 3,500-year-old mummy, along with the mummified cat which might have accompanied the mummy into the afterlife.

The trail ends at the Haunted Storyteller’s Stage where professional storytellers will spin tales about Tennessee.

Children who complete each stop of the ghost trail will receive prizes. Those attending the Haunted Museum event are invited to wear costumes and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Travellers Rest: Twisted Tennessee–Two Sides to Every Tale
Where: Travellers Rest Plantation & Museum, 636 Farrell Parkway
When: Fri, October 23, 2014, 6pm – 10pm
Cost: 10 and up $10, 5-9 years o age $5, 4 and under free, family of 4 tickets $30
Details: Travellers Rest presents a look into the dark corners of Tennessee’s past with stories of monsters, ghosts, and other spooky things from tales once told around the fireside. A play will also be presented about the only documented trial for witchcraft in the state’s history. Candlelight tours of the mansion will be offered along with other activities for guests of all ages.

Haunted Franklin Tour, presented by Franklin on Foot
Where: Downtown Franklin, meet at 305 Public Square
When: Mon-Sun 7pm
Cost: $18 adults, $10 teens, $5 kids
Details: The family-friendly Haunted Franklin tour explores the ghosts and haunts that linger on the streets and in the historic buildings of historic Franklin. Departed socialites, a Civil War spy, failed businessmen, Confederate soldiers, and at least one dog roam downtown, and the tour spends an intriguing hour and a half with them. One is helpful, several appear lonely, and one seems to be afraid of the dark. You’ll visit 4-5 locations on your leisurely walk through Franklin. Bring your camera: you never know what you may catch. And you’ll show you the photos that other visitors have taken on our tours. Get tickets here.
