Take a Dip in the Westhaven Pool to Raise Funds for Habitat for Humanity

On Saturday, February 25, Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) will hold its second annual Hab-a-Splash! & Winter Festival 11a-1p at the Westhaven Resort Pool at 401 Cheltenham Ave in Franklin, TN. The festival is free and open to the public. In addition, Habitat is seeking plunge participants who are asked to donate or fundraise for the cause.

This fun, family-friendly event will include children’s activities, including face painting by Fantasy Face Artistry; a snow machine; music and games from DJ Louis Lee; and food trucks, including Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, Music City Brisket, and Puckett’s. Visitors can try their hand at shooting pucks with the Junior Predators, launching padded arrows in Deer Run’s hover ball inflatable, dancing with polar bear mascots, and much more!

The event will culminate with warm-hearted volunteers taking a frosty dip into Westhaven’s outdoor pool to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity’s affordable housing mission. WSVM Channel 4’s Snowbird and Chief Meteorologist, Lisa Spencer, will be the guests of honor at the event and will lead plunge countdowns.

“Since there are age limits on the build site, this is a great opportunity for younger supporters to get involved in Habitat,” notes HFHWM Director of Communications Jennee Galland. “We challenge brave souls of any age to come out take the plunge to help us raise funds to build affordable homes for local families. And you don’t have to do it alone! You can challenge your friends, family, office, or church group to join you.” Prizes will be given out to top fundraisers and for best participant costumes.

HFHWM’s goal for the Hab-a-Splash! is to raise $15,000, $3,000 more than last year. The registration fee for the plunge is $10 and those wishing to participate are asked to register at https://www.firstgiving.com/13234/habitatplunge2017 and raise at least $100 through donations from their personal network.

“We want to make fundraising for the Hab-a-Splash! as easy as possible,” explains Galland. “We have sample letters, emails, and online tools to make the process simple, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. Plus who could say “no” to this request!” Corporate sponsorships are available and include the opportunity for a company’s team to take the plunge together.

For 23 years, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations, and the public sector to provide 200 Williamson and Maury County families with the opportunity to purchase their own homes. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals, as well as through profits generated from the affiliate’s ReStore. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, church members, high school students, and other volunteers, enable HFHWM to build and sell homes to families who qualify.

After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. HFHWM partner families must earn at least 280 hours of “sweat equity” by completing a homebuyer’s education program and working on their home and the homes of others. HFHWM sells the homes at no profit and provides a zero-interest mortgage loan, which make payments affordable.
