Free Internet Dangers Seminar Being Offered to Parents

Williamson County Schools

Heritage Middle School will host the free “Sexting, Texting and All Things Cyber” public seminar for teens and parents to learn about Internet dangers.

The session will cover the legal and social problems that surround sexting and texting and will include Internet dangers as they relate to teens. This public forum will allow parents to ask questions of professionals and gain a better understanding of why supervision is necessary for young people with Internet access.

Presenters will include Juvenile Judge Sharon Guffee, author of Raising Teens in the 21st Century Dr. Jim Wellborne, FBI Agent Scott Augenbaum, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. The seminar will run from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Middle School, 4803 Columbia Pk in Thompson Station.

Dr. Jim Wellborn, local adolescent and family therapist will also be discussing good parenting practices and a guide for setting age appropriate internet privileges.

“While the use of electronic devices has become a good education resource, we fully acknowledge the issues that young people face with this increased access to the world.  It is critical that we educate our young people about the dangers and inform the parents about the trends so that we keep our youth safe,” said Judge Guffee, “I encourage all parents to attend and gain this valuable information. We want to provide the resources to assist them.”
