Franklin Theatre Offers Halloween Movies

Franklin Theatre is offering three classic Halloween movies this week.  A couple for the whole family to enjoy and one that might have you sleeping with the light on that night.

Wednesday October 29, 7pm – Ghostbusters Rated PG 

Filmed in 1984,  american science fantasy comedy film directed and produced by Ivan Reitmanand.   Three eccentric parapsychologists in New York City who start a ghost-catching business are played by Bill Murray,Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.   Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis co-star as a client and her neighbor. The Ghostbusters business booms after initial skepticism, but when an uptown high-rise apartment building becomes the focal point of spirit activity linked to the ancient god Gozer, it threatens to overwhelm the team and the entire world. When you leave the movie, we will beat  you will be singing “Who You Gonna Call?  Ghostbusters!”

Friday, October 31st, 7 pm  Young Frankenstein Rated PG  1974 American comedy film directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder as the title character, a descendant of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The supporting cast includes Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, Richard Haydn and Gene Hackman. The screenplay was written by Wilder and Brooks. Young Frankenstein is a parody  of the classic Frankenstein produced in the 1930s.  The story begins when Gene Wilder the grandson has been informed his has inherited the estate Transylvania.  Upon returning to the estate, Wilder discovers his grandfather’s lab and starts performing experiments.  Well, you will have to see the movie to find out what happens next.

Friday, October 31st 10pm  The Shining  Rated R Produced in 1980, The Shining is a horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, co written by Diane Johnson.  Based off Stephen King’s novel, The Shining, it stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, and Scatman Crothers. The character Jack Torrance takes a job as an off-season caretaker of the Overlook Hotel.  His son possess the ability  to see things from the past and future such as ghosts.  Jack Torrance then becomes overtaken by a supernatural presence which causes him to go mad.  Jack then attempts to murder his wife and son. The Daily Beast ranked it as one the 11 most scariest movies of all time.  One of the most influential movies on pop culture with the most quoted line  ” Here’s Johnny.”
