Franklin Police Keeping a Close Eye on School Traffic

The Franklin Special School District will be back in session on Wednesday, August 6, and the Franklin Police Department want drivers in Franklin to know that they will be closely monitoring school traffic.

“Be alert and obey the law,” said Chief Deborah Faulkner. “Our officers will be out in force saturating school zones and surrounding areas. Violators can expect to be cited.”

The minimum fine for speeding in a school zone or illegally passing a stopped school bus is about $140, and most bus-related deaths are children ages four to five who are walking across the street after getting off the bus.

Police encourage parents to talk to their children about walking across the street and parking lots safely, and to consider leaving a little bit earlier in the morning to avoid most of the traffic.

Williamson County Schools will start back on Friday, and the police will be setting up school patrols at that time as well as on Wednesday to make sure kids are getting home safely and school traffic is flowing properly.
