For anyone who has listened to the “College Football Kickoff Show” podcast during football season has heard the voice of Billy Derrick. What many do not know about Derrick is that he began this at only 15-years-old. Now, the sports journalist wunderkind is joining Source Local Media and TNHighSchoolFootball.com.
Derrick, a rising junior at Father Ryan, began his show with a focus on local teams. A lifelong Vanderbilt fan, Billy called on his fellow Irish classmate Charlie Sheridan, a Vols fan, as his “UT Insider” for his show. Their show drew guests such as Athlon Sports college football writer Braden Gall, longtime Nashville sports radio host George Plaster, and legendary MTSU coach Boots Donnelly. Beyond the work on his show, Derrick also worked with Father Ryan in the “Behind the Crest” sports media club.
After his work last year, Source Local Media has decided to bring on Billy Derrick as a high school intern for football coverage with williamsonsource.com and Chad Withrow’s tnhighschoolfootball.com.
Withrow said about the new intern, “I’m excited to have Billy Derrick as a part of our team. Billy had the passion and foresight to start his own podcast at the age of 12, and had the talent to turn that podcast into a success. When you read and hear his work, you would never know he was only 16-years-old. I’m confident that we are all witnessing the start of a long and productive career in sports media.”
Billy Derrick’s work is another step in the continued efforts of Source Local Media to provide the best in prep sports coverage to our readers.
