Hickman Headed to Yellow Jackets’ Hive

Fairview started the year with a 38-7 loss to Page, then another by a field goal to Creek Wood.

At 0-2, things looked pretty bleak. Until . . .

After scoring a combined 21 points in two games, the Yellow Jackets nearly tripled that with a 56-33 win against Region 6-3A adversary Stewart County. Fairview followed that with a nine-point win at Waverly Central.

“We were not healthy our first two games—Page beat us up and we did not recover against Creekwood,” Chris Hughes, Fairview Head Coach, said.

Things Looking Up For Fairview

Now on Friday, after a week off, the 2-2 Yellow Jackets host Hickman County.

The Bulldogs record this season turns Fairview’s on its head. After busting out of the gates to two wins, they lost their next three.

“Their quarterback is the fastest kid we have played all year,” Hughes said.

That would be Morgan Patton, Hickman’s 5-foot-9, 155 pound playmaker.

He is most dangerous running the ball, averaging 189 yards rushing and three touchdowns per game, on 8.2 yards per carry.

“They are aggressive and gritty like Waverly,” Hughes said.

Speaking of Waverly, because of the Fairview bye last week, both teams last opponent was Waverly. Hickman lost 42-31, while Fairview won.

Jacob Beathard gets the Yellow Jacket offense going. The running back has 386 yards and 6 touchdowns this year, while averaging almost 10 yards per carry. Beathard had also 155 yards receiving and a touchdown on 8 catches.

For Fairview to win, Hughes said his team has to do better.

“We are inconsistent and need to be more disciplined,” he said.

“Less penalties and turnoves will lead to more wins”

The game is the last home game for Fairview before homecoming on October 9. Fairview sits in first place in its district, Region 6-3A, with a 1-0 record.
