Fairview Looks to Pick Up Where it Left Off

Fairview Yellow Jackets
By Lisa Anderson

Fairview starts its season on Friday, Aug 21st, at 7 p.m. at Page in one of our Games of the Week.

(The other is Franklin vs Centennial)

Fairview went 7-4 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs. But the Yellowjackets ended the regular season on a five-game win streak.

Despite redistricting and a slew of new regional rivals this season, Coach Chris Hughes sees the matchup at Page as a chance for his team to pick up where it left off last year.

“The Page game will set the tone for our entire season,” he said. “We are preparing for a battle.  There is a lot of hype around this game and it is a big rivalry.”

“Page has a great running back and quarterback and their defense is super aggressive and they run to the ball.  We will have to bring our A- game and plan to do just that.”

Fairview has had the upper hand in the rivaly for the last few years, as Page has not won since 2012. Last year, however, the Yellowjackets won by only four points.

“Our kids are very confident but not looking over anyone,” Hughes said.

“We have a saying here that ‘No one beats Fairview but Fairview.’ The last few years any loss we had was because of something within our control.  We plan to be consistent and not let those things happen.”

Jacob Underwood, writing for PrepWeekly.com, laid out what Fairvew will play and look like on the field:
On offense, the plan is to play fast out of multiple sets. The goal, stated simply, is to be explosive. Seven starters return from last year’s unit headlined by quarterback Hunter Zimmerman.Zimmerman is a dynamic playmaker with a strong arm and a high football IQ. He’s a 3-year starter that made the all-state team as a sophomore. Fairview plays an aggressive, blitzing brand of defense using a variety of fronts. Seven starters return on defense led by a pair of hard-hitting linebackers. Ben Buttrey was one of the teams leading tacklers last yearFairview continues to prove they are a legitimate player in the mid-state.That shouldn’t change in 2015.
