Beginner Overnight Backpack: Fiery Gizzard
Dutch Maid Bakery
Sat, May 20 11:30 am
I've had a few requests for another beginner level trip, so here it is. We'll do an easy 2.5 mile in and out on the southern end of the Fiery Gizzard in South Cumberland State Park. We'll plan on meeting Saturday morning at the Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracey City, TN at 11:30 a.m. central time for brunch. After brunch, we'll drive to the Foster Falls parking area. We'll head in to the Small Wilds back country campsite which is a 2.5 mile hike from the Foster Falls parking area trail head. I've reserved and paid for sites 2, 3 & 4. We'll hike back to our cars Sunday morning. This is an easy mileage trip with very little elevation change. Although this is a short easy hike, there will be opportunities to check out waterfalls, great vistas overlooking the gorge, and beautiful forest. If any experienced hikers want to join us and do the entire 13 mile length of the trail, we can coordinate leaving vehicles at the Grundy Forest parking area at the northern end of the trail. If you're carpooling, we'll plan on pulling out of Nashville at 9:00 am cst. (roughly a 2 hour drive from Nashville plus stops). We can meet at my place (503 Sunset Court, Mt Juliet). I'll probably also designate another location closer to Nashville for carpoolers to meet. This is a dog-friendly hike, feel free to bring your pups. The park charges a fee for campsites and requires reservations. It will break down to roughly $5.00 per person. Since there are costs associated with this trip, PLEASE rsvp with integrity. My number is 615.300.3671. If I haven't hiked with you before, send me a text or Meetup message with your phone number when you rsvp. If I don't receive your contact info, your spot will go to the next person on the wait list.
