Brentwood Academy Eagles (29-2, 12-0)
McCallie Blue Tornado (27-7, 8-4)
Brentwood Academy came out soaring right off the tip, as guard, Darius Garland knocked down a deep three to start the contest. That three was foreshadowing of what was to come for the Blue Tornado as BA would hit on five of their first seven attempts from three point land in the quarter.
BA would cool down from behind the arc in the second quarter, but continue to shoot 69% from the field. The Eagles’ precise shooting would give the Tornado the “blues” heading into half time down by a score of 47 to 24.
The third quarter would prove to be forgettable for both teams, as they shot under 40% from the field.
In the final quarter of a blowout, the last thing anyone would expect happened. Things got interesting.
Head coach, John Shulman of McCallie would receive multiple technicals mid-way through the fourth and would have to leave the court, rendering his already losing team even deeper in the hole. With the odds stacked in BA’s favor they would go on to coast to victory and their third DII-AA State Championship in as many years.
Brentwood Academy high scorer and Championship Game MVP, Darius Garland, finished with 30 points, seven boards and four assists.
High points man for McCallie, Junior Clay with 11
