Downtown Franklin Plans Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony for Dec. 1

Partnering with Spring Tree Media, the City of Franklin will light up the square this Dec. 1 with the annual Christmas tree lightning.

Local professional theatre company Studio Tenn will perform songs from “A Studio Tenn Christmas.” Freedom Intermediate School Honors Choir and Centennial High School Chamber Choir will also sing before Mayor Ken Moore flips the switch on the tree.

“Last year was such a fun event with close to 4,000 people in attendance,” Moore said. “This event is so special to our community. We thank our sponsors and especially Spring Tree Media who makes the Christmas magic happen.”

This year the event is sponsored by Spring Tree Media and Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (MTEMC).

“This event keeps getting bigger and bigger,” said Spring Tree Media President Peter Vaque. “Our goal is to show our community the joy of the season and how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful city. We hope to make this year a fun and memorable experience for all who attend and may be watching from home.”

Williamson Medical Center sponsors the free photos with Santa beginning at 5:30 p.m., one hour before the program starts.

The Grinch himself —star of the hit Broadway show “Dr. Seuss’ ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ The Musical” — will also be on the square for free photo opportunities. One lucky winner will walk away with a pair of free tickets to see the musical at the Grand Ole Opry House.

The Downtown Franklin Square will close from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. so attendees can enjoy the event without worry of traffic.

Downtown shops along Main Street will stay open late and feature holiday inspired windows and décor. Traveling musicians will also entertain the crowds leading up to the main event.

A public/private partnership between the City of Franklin, Franklin Tomorrow and Harpeth True Value to secure a new 40-foot tree for the Public Square is still under way.
