Deserving Fairview Family To Receive Habitat Home

Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury is holding a free informational event for their sixth Women Build project–a home in Fairview to be given to a single mother and her nine children.

The informational session takes place March 10th from 6p to 8p at Puckett’s Boathouse (94 East Main St in downtown Franklin). Attendees are asked to gather in the upstairs meeting room. Appetizers will be served. Drinks, including wine and beer can be purchased.

At 6:45, Habitat staff will give a short presentation about Women Build and tips on fundraising for the event. Veteran Women Build participants will be there to answer any questions you may have.

Getting volunteers for these homes is vital as the sponsorship cost of a home is $70,000.  Each lady who participates has a fundraising goal of $250 to go toward the cost of the house, and a volunteer goal of at least 1 day. To help participants raise money, a toolkit is provided with ideas and step-by-step instructions on how to raise the funds. In addition, Lowe’s and HFHWM will also offer optional, in-store workshops on Saturday mornings prior to the build to help participants learn skills for the build site. No prior experience in either fundraising or house-building is necessary to participate.

This year’s Women Build home will be given to Jennifer Aric and her 9 children: Julia (20), Adrianna (17), Isaiah (15), Addie (8), Adien (5), Macey (4), and Josie (1).

Ms. Aric is looking for stability for her family and looks forward to “putting down roots in the community.” Two of her children have disabilities; Adrianna has epilepsy and Isaiah has been diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta which is most commonly known as “brittle bone” disease. Isaiah has a wheelchair, so the modifications that will be made to the house are a blessing for him. Isaiah jokes with his mother about using the ramp to their new home as a “stunt ramp.” But, all joking aside, the 5-bedroom home that will be built for Jennifer and her children will provide a place of peace for Isaiah and his siblings. They are all occupying an apartment in Fairview, so the space to spread their wings will be a welcome change. Jennifer knows program ahead will be challenging, but she is looking forward to it. “Nothing in life is worth having unless you are challenged to obtain it,” she notes. Jennifer wants all her sponsors and Women Build volunteers to know that she thinks “they are simply amazing.” Habitat’s Women Build/Spring Community Build commences on April 18 in the Brandenburg neighborhood of Fairview. The home dedication is scheduled for June 13th.

The informational event at Puckett’s Boathouse is free, but please make sure to RSVP on their eventbrite page.
