With a Friday night postponement and many more delays Saturday, neither the Summit Spartans (1-1) nor the Clarksville Northwest Vikings (1-1) could find much offense in a mentally draining game.

The Spartans found just enough, though, to get their first win of the season.

After being postponed on Friday night because of lightning in the area with 4:27 left in the third quarter, Summit rallied Saturday night defensively. The Spartans led 10-7 at the postponement and scored once on Saturday to win 17-7.

Neither team got much going offensively either night, as Summit gained just 191 total yards and Northwest had 181. Both teams also struggled to play disciplined football, as 20 total penalties were called (11 on Summit) for 224 yards (123 for Summit).

The difference in the game was three costly turnovers by the Vikings, compared to none for the Spartans.

Summit picked off two Northwest passes and recovered a fumble.
Leading the way offensively for the Spartans was Tyler Palmer with 16 rushes for 68 yards. Tai Carter added 54 yards on nine runs.

Summit improved to 1-1 on the young season with the win. It travels to Shelbyville Friday for a date with the 2-0 Golden Eagles.
