Crisis Negotiators Save Man on Natchez Trace Bridge

A Franklin man is getting treatment after crisis negotiators spent nearly four hours trying to convince him to leave the Natchez Trace Bridge last night. Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the bridge shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening after someone saw a man sitting on the bridge railing.

The man was clearly in distress and planning to jump when deputies arrived. Crisis negotiators with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin Police Department began talking to the 33-year-old while all roads near the bridge were closed to traffic.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. the man decided to leave the bridge with a deputy and go to the hospital.

Last night’s efforts were a joint operation with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department Crisis Negotiating Team, Franklin Fire Department, EMS, Williamson County Rescue Squad and Park Rangers. Crisis negotiators were Investigator Stephen Shaver and Deputy Jose Mojica from the WCSO and Master Patrol Officer Jill Canovan from the Franklin Police Department.
