Paul Ward

Christ Presbyterian Academy’s Braxton Blackwell was named the Division I Class AA Mr. Basketball Award winner Saturday following the Class AA championship game in Murfreesboro.

It is the second-consecutive year Blackwell has been honored with the award.

Blackwell can do everything on the court. At 6-foot-8, the junior averages 21.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and three steals per game.

A three-year starter, Blackwell is a two-time member of the All-District, All-District Tournament, All-Region,
and All-State teams – while being named Region Most Valuable Player twice as well.

He led his Lions to a 32-5 record in 2015, falling to eventual champion Haywood 60-54 in the semifinals. Blackwell had 19 points and 19 rebounds in that game.

Jackson South Side’s Chris McNeal and Frederick Douglass’ Legerald Vick finishes as runners up for the award.
