Christ Presbyterian Academy needed a win Friday to keep pace in the Region 5-3A standings.

Going into the contest, the Lions (2-5, 2-1) were chasing Stratford (8-0, 4-0), which beat CPA 7-6 the week prior. They went on the road to East Nashville (3-5, 2-2) and got the job done, shutting out the Eagles 28-0.

After scoring just six combined points over its previous three games, the offensive output was a welcomed sight for CPA. Senior running back James Deaton led the way with 17 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

The shutout was also the first of the season for the Lions.

While CPA was able to get a win to stay just a game back of Stratford at 2-1 in the region, the Spartans didn’t help the Lions’ cause with a 15-14 win over Goodpasture.

With just three games left on their regular season schedule, the Lions have to hope Stratford slips up against Whites Creek and Greenbrier, currently seventh and fifth in the region, respectively, in its last two games to hand CPA the region title.

The Lions are back at home next week against Greenbrier (5-3, 2-2) before hitting the road at Goodpasture and finishing the season at home against Whites Creek.
