Christ Presbyterian Academy got its second redemption win in as many weeks Friday.

Against Region 5-3A foe Goodpasture Christian, the Lions kicked a field goal in double overtime to take a 30-27 win and advance to the state semifinals for the sixth year in a row.

After not losing a league game for five years, CPA lost two Region 5-3A contests this season. The first was to Stratford, which the Lions upset last week, and the second was Goodpasture 31-28 on Oct. 21.

The Lions were able to get back at the Cougars behind running back James Deaton. The senior rushed 28 times for 128 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Eledge added a 10-for-18 passing day with 92 yards and an interception. He also rushed for two touchdowns.

CPA was able to overcome a huge game from Goodpasture running back Jermaine Mason. He had 24 carries for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

The win sends the Lions to the semifinals, where Liberty Magnet awaits. The 11-2 Crusaders beat Dyersburg 36-35 on Friday for their seventh win in a row.

The two teams met in last year’s semifinals and it was all CPA. The Lions shut out Liberty 21-0 and advanced to their third state title game in a row.
