CPA Founder/Teacher Retires

A veteran teacher and founding member of Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA) will retire this year.

Laura Pollock has taught high school English at CPA for 19 years; however, her tremendous impact on the community started much earlier, at the founding meetings in 1985, when the elders of Christ Presbyterian Church decided to start a kindergarten.

As Pollock prepared for the school’s first students, researched other private schools in the area, and accepted a position on the first school board, she never ceased to seek the vision of CPA through prayer. A handful of teachers, families, and resources formed the Academy’s beginnings, and Pollock was there for it all.

Laura Pollock“Our meetings were mostly prayer and trying to keep up with a vision that we barely understood. We heard countless stories of people who were willing to leave excellent schools to come to this new school, way out in Williamson county!” says Pollock.

Once the school had grown into an established K-6 program in need of a headmaster, Pollock recommended one of her colleagues from a previous school, Richard Anderson.

“We began to buy desks, books, start a library, and the rest is history,” says Pollock.

Pollock served on the school board for ten years, all the while cultivating the English and Bible programs with her passion for students and their academic and spiritual growth. She has remained a beloved teacher, counselor, colleague, and pillar of the Academy. Students know her by her unfailing compassion and pursuant investment in their education and their lives.

Pollock’s retirement has been a testament to the divine orchestration of CPA’s founding members and their courageous work.

“The most obvious truth here is that God moved powerfully in our midst to create His vision for Christian education. He sent countless individuals to contribute to that vision and used weak vessels like us to implement His plan,” says Pollock. “Teaching and living out a Christian worldview is a privilege and a joy, as we pass on these truths to the next generation.”
