Commonwealth Drive Opens Friday in Spring Hill

The City of Spring Hill will cut the ribbon and officially open the newest extension of Commonwealth Drive on Friday at 5 p.m.

The three-lane road officially opens to traffic Friday, with only the construction of sidewalks remaining. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be hosted at the Wall Street entrance to the new Commonwealth extension, leading to U.S. 31 (Columbia Pike).

The community is invited to join Mayor Rick Graham and Alderman Chad Whittenburg, chairman of the Transportation Advisory Committee, along with the project’s developers at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, to host a brief ceremony to open the new roadway, which was built through a public/private partnership.

Commonwealth Drive has been extended almost a half-mile west from where it once terminated in front of Longview Recreation Center, now connecting into the existing section of Commonwealth at Wall Street.

The project creates a critically important connector to U.S. 31 (Columbia Pike), where traffic is expected to be lessened, and links nearby neighborhoods to retail, restaurants and the popular recreation center.
