Coffeehouse Series Continues with The Perch in Brentwood

As we continue our coffeehouse series, we could not leave out Brentwood’s favorite go-to  gathering place for coffee.  Located just a mile from I-65  at the intersection of Franklin Road and Old Hickory Boulevard.  The Perch which is connected to  The Skinbar has been known to have a few celebrity sighting.  But it really so much more,  so don’t delay in checking it out but be sure to get there early as seating is limited.  We sat down with husband and wife team,  John Kressaty and Heather Chandler, to learn more about how a cosmetic chemist (John) and an Aesthetician (Heather) brought together a  passion for coffee and good food.

WS:  What made you want to open The Perch?

Chandler:   The Perch was an epiphany I had on a plane… I was obviously hungry, wanted an omelette or a crepe, typical breakfast at our house. As I read an article in one of the travel magazines about a hotel in Shanghai that hung antique bird cages throughout the entry with light bulbs in them for ambience, a light bulb went off for me! I began sketching a bird on a twig, talking about how breakfast should be available all day….the Perch was born!

WS:  What inspired the name The Perch?

Chandler: “The Perch” seemed apropos for a place to hang with the ones you love to share good conversation and good food.

WS:  The Perch is known for crepes and great food, can you tell us about that?

Chandler: Not only can you fill your crepe with fresh sautéed portabella mushrooms and Swiss cheese, there are options like turkey, Brie, cranberry and arugula that remain a favorite year round. Our waffles and omelettes seem to have a solid reputation as you can choose toppings and fillings to your liking. Oh, we can’t forget my favorite dish…the shrimp, smoked Gouda grits…portioned to share! On the lighter side, try a baby beet and goat cheese salad paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio.

WS: If you were a customer, what coffee drink would you order?

Chandler: The Cubano is our drink of choice…a sweet creamy foam layers an intense Zimbabwean espresso…addictive!

WS:  In three words, how would you describe The Perch?

Chandler: Unique, Fresh and Addictive!
