The 49th CMA Awards kicked off with Eric Church and Hank Williams Jr. just as Eric Church released an album earlier that day. Fans could download the new album or Eric Church was offering the physical album at his pop-up store after the CMA Awards. If you needed a ride to the pop-up show, you can request an Uber playing the new album, “Mr. Misunderstood.”
Opening monologue with host Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley left the audience with nervous laughter as they say,”How many couples broke up this year?” Underwood says they can’t ignore the break-up that rocked our world. The one that is on everyone’s mind. Two people we know and love. Splitsville. Then the camera pans to Miss Piggy and Kermit sitting a row apart.
Paisley says, “Howdy Blake, Carrie have you heard about that Blake did with Ashley Madison?” Enter awkward laughter.

Top performance of the night: Chris Stapleton with Justin Timberlake singing ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ & ‘Drink You Away.’ Is there anything that Justin Timberlake can’t do? Who knew that this pairing would sound flawless. Apparently the two are friends“[Timberlake] is obviously one of the greatest musical talents in the world, maybe ever, that we have,” Chris told Rolling Stone Country. “I called him up with no thought of him agreeing to it, and he was ready to start planning it right then. I said, ‘Well, I think maybe we should wait, and if we get nominated they’ll let me have [a slot].’ He was so gracious and kind to want to do it and was so excited about it, and I’m excited about it. It’ll be something I’ve never done before for sure.”
