City of Spring Hill Repaving Nearly 5 Miles of City Streets

The City of Spring Hill’s paving contractor began this week milling and repaving the first of nearly a dozen streets included in this fiscal year’s paving budget.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen annually sets aside funds to lay fresh asphalt on the local roadways that need it most. The work will continue into the fall and is expected to wrap up in the spring, said Public Works Director Jeff Foster.

Paving projects on the list, funded by the 2016-17 fiscal year budget, include:

  • Buckner Road from Brixworth Drive to Main Street (U.S. 31), where paving got underway this week. The work is expected to be complete next week, weather permitting.
  • Buckner Lane from Duplex Road to near Twin Lakes Drive (in front of Summit High School), with the exception of some segments of the road that did not warrant paving. The road has been milled; paving will begin soon, weather permitting.
  • Spring Hill Place, development phases 6, 7 and 9, which includes multiple streets, also is being paved this week using a mixture of developer bond funds and city funds.
  • Depot Street from north of Chester Avenue to slightly beyond Belle Drive. This repaving will be part of an ongoing water line installation project.
  • Lancaster Drive from Depot Street to Old Military Road.
  • Spring Hill Circle will be repaved all the way around, from Main Street to Main Street, with work expected to begin in about a month.
  • New Port Royal Road from near Walden Creek Trace past the traffic light at Reserve Boulevard. The work is expected to begin in the Fall.

The City of Spring Hill also paved, and completed storm water improvement projects, throughout most of the older downtown streets in the fiscal year 2015-16 paving budget, including: Alexander Boulevard, Chester Avenue, Old Military Road and Maury Hill Street, with the exception of Depot and Lancaster, which will be addressed as part of an ongoing water line project expected to be complete within about a week, Foster said.

When milling and paving is underway, traffic will be periodically reduced to one lane throughout the workday. Please use extra caution when driving through these areas, and consider taking other routes when possible.
