City of Spring Hill to Purchase First Cadillac XT5

Cadillac XT5

The City of Spring Hill next week will purchase one of the first dealer-delivered Cadillac XT5 Crossover vehicles produced at GM Spring Hill
Manufacturing.

The news media is cordially invited to attend the official key swap where Lucas Chevrolet and Cadillac will convey the City’s white, base-model 2017 Cadillac XT5 at a special vehicle delivery ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in front of the GM Welcome Center at Spring Hill Manufacturing.

GM announced in November that it would begin producing the XT5 in Spring Hill, creating a portion of the 1,800 new and retained jobs announced at the local plant in recent years. GM is a valued and generous corporate citizen, and a strong community partner with the City of Spring Hill, that gives back to our community and provides goodpaying American jobs for our citizens. To show continuing support for the region’s largest employer, the City of Spring Hill has always purchased GM vehicles going back to the plant’s beginnings as Saturn.

An early model Saturn SW1 station wagon served as a city administration vehicle and later as an IT Department vehicle when the administrator began driving a Saturn Vue. The Vue eventually became a police staff vehicle, which later purchased another Vue. E-
911 Dispatch still drives the older model Vue today, and the City fleet continues to include three Saturns.

Today, the city’s fleet is fully outfitted with 119 GM vehicles throughout our city departments, including these models: Chevy Blazer, Caprice, Colorado, Equinox, Impala, Tahoe, Silverado 1500WT, Silverado 2500WT; Suburban K1500, Traverse; GMC Sierra 1500WT (LD and HD), Sierra 2500WT, C70, C8500, Terrain; and Saturn Vue.

The XT5 will be used by city administration and elected officials for travel to conferences, training, state and regional transportation meetings, and for economic development purposes.

“We are extremely proud to be the home of such a productive and recognized GM plant, and what better way to show our support for the fine vehicles they produce than by purchasing one of the first ones to hit a local dealer lot,” said Spring Hill Mayor Rick Graham. “We are associating our city with the GM brand when we drive this new crossover vehicle across the state to conferences and local meetings, just as we do when we purchase a new Chevy Equinox for use as a staff vehicle. And when people see that, they will associate Spring Hill with one of the best brands in the world.”

  1. Tax dollars wasted. Totally ridiculous. I hope those who voted for this are prepared for a battle come reelection time.
