Chili Cook-Off Raises Funds for Nolensville Man Paralyzed While on Vacation

Chili Cook off for Nolensville Man

BY SAMANTHA HEARN

While vacationing in Mexico last year, a Nolensville man and his family had their lives changed forever when Greg Smalley and his son, Xander, were body-surfing and a wave crashed into them, rendering Greg with a broken neck and unable to move.

The Smalley family soon after went to Atlanta for Greg’s extensive and difficult rehabilitation. Now, they are building a wheelchair accessible home in Nolensville to accommodate for Greg’s quadriplegic status.

To help raise money for the modified home, a Chili Cook Off and Silent Auction are taking place this weekend. The event is being held at the Historic Nolensville School on Nolensville Road next to the new Recreation Center. Volunteers are needed to help make this a success.

The event will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature a silent auction that closes at 7 p.m., a live auction that starts at 7 p.m., a bake sale all day, the chili cook-off from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and live music and dancing.

Bake sale items, silent auction items, live auction items and volunteers are all wanted.

The event will take place this Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7248 Nolensville Road from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can keep up with the Smalley family and Greg’s progress on the Facebook page “Praying for Greg.” To donate to the family directly, click here.
