Cougars Look to Continue Winning Ways against Clarksville

After their loss to Independence, Centennial has been a different team. The Cougars have averaged 37.5 points per game and are giving up only 14 points per game during their four game winning streak. This week provides the Cougars first true test since Independence.

In Class 5A Region 7, there has been a separation between the haves and the have-nots. Of the eight teams, three, Centennial, Brentwood, and Henry County are undefeated in regional play to this point. On the other side, Dickson County, Northeast, and West Creek are yet to win a game in regional play. Clarksville’s first regional loss came last week at the hands of Henry County.

Cougar Run Game Looks to Challenge Wildcats

Last week against Clarksville, Henry County got all but 15 yards on the ground. With running backs Mondu Sanders and Tyrel Dodson in the backfield, the Cougars could have a huge day against a weak Clarksville front seven. Blake Lovell, who has missed some time with injury, and Senturian DuReaux have both stepped up as signal caller for Centennial. Most of the success for the Cougars comes from having short fields from turnovers.

Defensively, Dodson has led an athletic front seven in forcing turnovers, more than 15 on the season already. The Cougars are going up against an offense that only tallied 199 yards total, 98 yards on the ground last week against Henry County. The Cougars look to keep up their recent dominance, allowing only 5 touchdowns in regional play.

The Cougars have been one of the state’s best teams in recent weeks, but the next two weeks will be huge tests going into the bye week. Clarksville and next week’s rivalry game with Brentwood look to be the only challenges on the schedule before Centennial’s final game against Henry County.
