Centennial High School PTSO held the 18th annual Centennial Holiday Show, Saturday, Nov 21, 2015 at the school, 5050 Mallory Lane. And on Monday, February 22, 2016 the Parent-Teacher-Student Organization met to determine how to donate the $28,000 the non-profit made from the November event through restricted donations to classrooms, departments and various school groups.

The Centennial Holiday Show is THE major fundraiser for Centennial High School. This PTSO fundraiser has raised over $600,000 throughout its 18 year history, enabling the purchase of a 3-D printer for the drafting classes, new curtains for the theater, upgraded teacher technology, materials for the science, math, English, history and special education departments, band instruments and many other needs for student programs. This year was no exception, with the group enabling educators, departments and school groups to purchase many items, including physics equipment, water refill stations and sound/visual items for the school’s new Performing Arts Center.

The February meeting is a very important one every year and an excellent example of the collaborative relationships between all groups at Centennial High School. After the November event, the parent volunteers settled all the minor expenses related to the show and tallied the rest to use toward funding school needs. At the same time, administrators, teachers and students work to write their requests and explains their needs. Once the information is gathered and put into a spreadsheet, the PTSO organization comes together at a meeting and all have a chance to verbally and visually present their requests for restricted donations from the holiday show. With the advisement of administrators, the PTSO board is then able to determine what donations they will be able to partially or fully make. It’s an extremely positive event, with all participants working together to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to make the request and then have that request honored in some way.

The 2016 show, scheduled for Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, 2016, will feature over 150 arts and crafts vendors from nearly a dozen states! More information is available at the website and through social media. There is a minimal admission price and parking is always free, with free shuttles provided.
