Bruins Battle for First Title Trip

Bruins fans, the long wait is over.

Brentwood’s boys basketball team will be playing for their first state championship Saturday after beating Memphis East 53-44 today in front of a huge crowd at MTSU’s Murphy Center.

Brentwood took the lead for good with 1:30 remaining in fourth quarter as Ryan Hood hit two free throws – the first ones the Bruins shot during the game- to put the Bruins up 45-43.

Jalen Lawson hit two more 30 seconds later, fueling a 10-0 Bruins run over the final 1:30.

Grant Teichmann had a game-high 17 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field.

Lawson and Hood each added eight.

The Bruins led Memphis East 23-19 at halftime before the Mustangs outscored Brentwood 18-12 in the third period.

Brentwood’s defense proved up to the task against an athletic East team, forcing 13 turnovers which led to 15 points.

In the end, it was probably the difference maker as both teams shot 45% from the field.

Having reached the Class AAA state tournament each of the last three season, the Bruins hope the third time is the charm as they will face the winner between Blackman and Hamilton Saturday at 2 p.m. for the state title.
