The Brentwood Bruins (2-3, 1-1 in District) travel to play the Oakland Patriots (5-0) this Friday in a non-conference game.

The Bruins beat Dickson County easily last week, 33-3, and this week face a much harder challenge in the Patriots. Oakland ranks 6th in the state according to Maxpreps, Brentwood 53rd.

After three straight losses to open the season, the Bruins are on a two game winning streak and look to upset the Patriots.

It would be an upset, considering that Oakland is 2nd in Class 6A while Brentwood is 37th.  The Bruins are fourth, right in the middle, of District 11. So pulling to 3-3 overall and  .500 with a win against the Patriots this week would be just what the team needs to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.

The Bruins will need to find a way to score somehow against the Patriots dynamite defense.Teams score, on average, only 10.8 points per game against them. In fact, Siegel is the only team this year to score more than 8 points, in its 35-25 loss in week three, against the Patriots.

That will be on the shoulders of senior quarterback Aaron Maher, who leads the team in rushing and in passing this year.  On the ground, he averages 6.0 yards a carry and 80.6 yards per game this season (321 yards total on 53 carries). Throwing, he has completed 68 percent of his passes, and averages almost 150 yards per game. He has thrown seven touchdowns to just three interceptions.

Comparing the two teams, Brentwood averages 26 points scored and 24 given up per game; Oakland 34.8 for, 10.8 given up.
