Brentwood Academy to Send Three Students to Speech and Debate Nationals

Brentwood Academy Speech and Debate

Brentwood Academy seniors Christopher Clark and Brandon Black qualified for the annual National Speech & Debate Tournament (NSDA) this June after their performances at the National Qualifying Tournament in Spring Hill. Junior Grace Smith will also compete at Nationals again this year based on her semi-finals performance in Humorous Interpretation at last year’s NSDA tournament. Senior Katherine Nesbitt will be an alternate in Program Oral Interpretation.

Nationals is a five-day tournament held in Birmingham, AL that will feature the top 235 students in each main event. This tournament not only hosts students from across the country but there are students competing at this tournament from all across the globe. While this is Brandon’s fourth time qualifying to the national tournament, it is his first time in his respective event (Original Oratory). This is Christopher’s first time to qualify for the national stage. Senior Gracie Smith will compete in humorous interpretation.

The Brentwood Academy upper school speech and debate team is coached by faculty member Austin Groves.
