Billy Ray Cyrus is starring in a new movie, appropriately titled ‘Like A Country Song.’ The cast and crew spent time in Williamson County and Nashville filming. Local shoot locations included Kimbro’s Cafe in Franklin, Riverbend Nurseries in Thompson Station and The United Methodist Church of College Grove.
“Nashville and its surrounding communities offer a welcoming environment for the film industry,” commented producer and screenwriter Johnny Remo (SkipStone Pictures).“Its authenticity and history, character and charm naturally complement the flavor of ‘Like A Country Song.’”
The film centers around the relationship between Cyrus, who plays country singer Bo Reeson and his son, Jake, played by Joel Smallbone (half of the Christian music duo For King & Country).
No stranger to the movie and television screen, Cyrus starred in the PAX-TV series “Doc.” Other television credits include “Hannah Montanna”, “The Nanny”, “Diagnosis Murder”, “Love Boat”, “The Next Wave”, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, “Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye.” and TNN’s “18 Wheels Of Justice.” Cyrus also starred in the Jackie Chan movie “The Spy Next Door”, in the independent film “Radical Jack” and also enjoyed roles in the David Lynch film “Mulholland Drive” and the New Line Cinema feature film” Wish You Were Dead.” He spent eight weeks on the ABC reality entertainment series “Dancing with The Stars.”
Cyrus not only acts in the film but also sings the film’s title song. Other artists featured in the movie are Larry Gatlin and Deborah Allen.
Cyrus says he felt called to do this film. “When I was presented with the script and read it, it was like a spiritual intervention. My dad used to call me ‘Bo’ as a youngster. I feel like I’m supposed to do this film,” he said.
Also starring in the film is: Booboo Stewart, known for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I & II” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past;” Jennifer Bini Taylor from the CBs sitcom “Two And A Half Men;” and Kerry Knuppe, from the TV series “Vegas”
“Like A Country Song” officially hits theaters June 6th but on June 5th, a special red carpet premiere event will take place at the Green Hills Regal Theatre. Our own, Donna Vissman, will be there to get the latest scoop on this movie.

Billy Ray Cyrus will also perform Saturday, June 7th on the Chevrolet Riverfront Stage at 10am and sign autographs at 1pm at the Music City Center.
