BGA Warms Up for Year Against Goodpasture

After going 10-3 last year and all the way to the II-A state championship game, where BGA lost to Webb, the Wildcats are hungry to tear through another season. They proved that on Friday to the misfortune of Goodpasture Christian. Yikes!

BGA Has an Air Force, Commences Ignition Sequence

In shocking and aweing its way to a 47-0 win, BGA scored seven touchdowns. One on the ground, one on a 44-yard Joseph Pasley punt return and five- yes, five- in the air.

Quarterback Clayton Beathard, who possibly went to Fighter Pilot Training this summer, was deadly in the air. He lead the Wildcats to a 35-point halftime lead, going 12 of 17 for 319 yards and four touchdowns. For good measure,

Marcus Cawthorne was the pot of gold at the other end of that rainbow, hauling in 7 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. His spectacular scores came on 53 and 68 yard plays. In fact, all four of Beathard’s touchdown throws measured more than 40 yards. Patrick Wells, the double rainbow, as it were, caught scores of 53 and 46 yards and finished with 5 catches for 129 yards.

For good measure, Beathard ran one in from two yards out. Perhaps he was bored of seeing everyone else but him in the end zone.

In all seriousness, this was a truly dominant opening game from BGA and it signals that the Wildcats fully intend to compete for the state championship. However, Goodpasture was 0-10 last year. A much better picture of just how good or great BGA could be will come next week, when the Wildcats travel to Lebanon to face division foe Friendship Christian, which went 10-2 last year.
