Neighborhood of the Week: Berry Farms, Franklin TN
Williamson County is home to several sought after communities. Berry Farms is a mixed-use community where work, shopping, and play is blended together.
The community is conveniently located on 600 acres just to the east of downtown Franklin and right off Interstate 65 at Peytonsville Rd. While their community includes a Publix shopping center along with doctors offices, restaurants, and other retail, the residential portion of the community includes houses made for connecting with your neighbors from the front porches to the sidewalks for walking with the family to parks and open space for hanging out and getting together.
One of the things that make Berry Farms particularly special is how the community is preserving history, like the pool house that memorializes Willow Plunge, the historic Franklin pool that was in operation from the 1920s through 1967. At Berry Farms, you’ll also find historical plaques that tell the story of that area of Franklin.
Berry Farms is rooted in Franklin history, centered around the Berry Family. Avalyn Berry and Tyler Berry are direct descendants of Colonel “Buck” Martin who first settled on the property in the early 1800′s prior to fighting in the War of 1812. After he returned, he convinced his sister Sally Martin Hughes and her husband to visit. They decided to make it their home, as well, after seeing the beautiful landscape and proceeded to build a new, larger brick home on the property so that it overlooked Five Mile Creek where geese congregated and swam and wild roses grew at random. That Rural Plains home still stands on the northwest tract of Berry Farms and will remain an integral part of Berry Farms throughout its development. Further, it had a front-row seat to the civil war where at least three skirmishes occurred, including one on April 19th, 1863 where Captain Samuel Freeman was killed and others were captured.
The combination of history along with sustainable community living results in a new classic way of living, working and playing that not only changes how a community looks, but how it feels.
