Brentwood Academy gets to hold bragging rights over Division II-AA basketball for the next 365 days as both the Eagles and Lady Eagles claimed state championships Saturday at Lipscomb’s Allen Arena.
The boys edged Christian Brothers 58-55 in the finals, handing them their first loss of the season. It marked BA’s fifth title – first since winning four-consecutive between 2003 and 2006. NBA star Brandan Wright was on those teams.
It was not an easy victory for BA, needing a strong fourth quarter after trailing 42-32 after three periods.
Jeremiah Oatsvall had a team-high 14 points, shooting 5-11 from the field.
The Lady Eagles won their third championship in school history, and second in a row, with a 63-41 dismantling of Briarcrest.
BA was on point throughout, shooting 55% from the field.
Linde McAvoy had a team-high 19 points while freshman Sydni Harvey was close behind with 17 – not missing a single of her six shots from the field and only one free throw.
BA Basketball finishes the 2014-15 season with HUGE wins! Go Eagles! #teamBA #statechamps https://t.co/1ozxB3Rpan
