Avoid the Phrase ‘Spoiler Alert’ Forever

Kevin Spacey is back as the deplorable Frank Underwood in Season 3 of Netflix’s “House of Cards,” “The Walking Dead” is nearing the end of its 5th season, and “Game of Thrones” is resuming in a little over a month. With all these great TV shows (and many more in addition to these) to watch, it’s hard to stay up-to-date. Thank you, DVR and/or TiVo!

However, try as you might, it’s nearly impossible to avoid news about your favorite show on social media feeds and websites. Polite bloggers might preface their post with SPOILER ALERT, but many FB and Twitter posts don’t warn you that one of your friends is about to tell you who the latest victim on “The Walking Dead” is. So what do you do?

We’ve got the answer. There are two wonderful apps that will keep all those spoilers away, so you can enjoy your favorite shows spoiler free!

1. Unspoiler, is a free extension for Google Chrome.

How does Unspoiler work?
Blocks headlines, tweets, facebook posts with this app. Once you’ve downloaded the plugin, just find it in your browser bar and type in the name of any show or references you don’t want to read about. You can also simply type “unspoil <insert show name> in the Chrome address bar. Unspoiler will check any webpage you load for those spoilers and replace them with a warning label which lets you know what it’s found. When you want to read about your favorite shows, you can remove the app.

2. Spoiler Shield, a free app for Android and iOS.

How does Spoiler Shield work?
Just install the app on your phone, sign in with Twitter and Facebook, and then set up a list of shows you want to shield. Spoiler Shield has 50 shows to choose from and sports. You can pick shows like “House of Cards”, “Game of Thrones”, “Agents of Shield”, “The Walking Dead” and more. Just go through the list and turn on the toggles for the shows you don’t want spoiled, and then use the Spoiler Shield app to browse Facebook and Twitter. You’ll still see all the posts from your friends and be able to interact with them normally. But if any update mentions one of the shows you’re trying to keep unspoiled, you’ll see a big shield, keeping spoilers at bay. You have the option to double tap a shield if you want to reveal the message.
