Spotted in downtown Franklin on Wednesday was Alicia Keys and Maren Morris at GRAYS on Main for their CMT Crossroads interview. The two also recorded their CMT Crossroads show in Franklin later that evening. The picture below is from the City of Franklin.
And then Alicia Keys posted on Instagram a photo of herself and Maren Morris in front of GRAYS on Main.
A private invite only CMT Crossroads taping of the show took place in Franklin which so happened to be a big night for Maren Morris. Not only was she teaming up with the superstar of soul – Alicia Keys, Morris had just received five CMA nominations earlier in the day. Morris, a first time nominee, is a new comer to country music at age 26. She received a nomination for the coveted Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
During the Crossroad, Keys said “I want you to get obnoxiously loud for these CMA nominations,” Keys went on to say to Morris “I’m super proud of you.” To which Morris replied, ” This day is definitely going in my diary.”
The pairing of these two amazingly talented women is hard to put into words. Both Keys and Morris said they are musically influenced by genres that work well together like motown and soul and they flawlessly performed some of each other’s hits. The night started with Morris’ “80s Mercedes.” Watch our clip from that performance below.
The two also performed Keys most popular songs of “Girl on Fire” and “No One” along with a cover of Bonnie Rait’s “Angel From Montgomery.”
Keys also performed in Nashville on Tuesday night at the ACM honors show with Cam. Keys said on her Facebook page that country and soul are “cousins.” Newly added to ‘The Voice’ show as a judge along with country music star Blake Shelton, Keys seems to have fully embraced Nashville.
The CMT Crossroads show will air on CMT on December 2, 9pm central. Set your DVR’s you won’t want to miss it and you’ll want to play it again and again.
