5. Bunganut Pig

1143 Columbia Ave, Franklin TN 37064

It might not be the first place one thinks of when talking about longstanding restaurants, but the Bunganut Pig on Columbia Avenue across from the Carter House has been around longer than all but a few other establishments. In fact, it is Franklin’s oldest bar.

Founded in 1986 as an English-style pub, it has had three owners in 31 years. Today it boasts of having the best burger in town, as well as everything from traditional English pub food like fish and chips to southern-style pork tenderloin.

The establishment consists of a main dining room and bar (in the basement) styled after a classical English Pub and an open-air billiards room and sports bar on the main floor. Our lania, patio and park area features live acoustic music from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. nightly during fair weather.

Shaded by a natural canopy of trees, the outdoor area can accommodate approximately 70 people and offers great ambiance for outdoor diners. Play a friendly game of corn hole (bean bag toss) great for young and old.

On Friday and Saturday evenings the main dining room and bar transform into a dancing venue where people of all ages boogie to dance, pop, rock and R&B cover tunes played by Nashville’s most talented cover bands.

As for the name, there are two stories behind it. One is the family-friendly one about a mythical old English pig. The other legend, told by longtime employees, is that the name describes a pig with, shall we say, unnatural anatomy. The truth is that even after only more than 30 years, perhaps no one knows where the name comes from.

Bunganut Pig is located at 1143 Columbia Ave, Franklin TN 37064.

Dine at the pub Mon-Thurs 11a-10p, Fri & Sat 11a-1a and on Sundays 11a-9p.
