brooke_hogan_3Brooke Hogan is  known as the daughter of  professional wrestler, Hulk Hogan, and often remembered for her time on the reality show “Hogan Knows Best ” reality show, but what you may not know is that Brooke lives in Nashville, performed at the CMA Fest and just released a new album.  We sat down with Brooke to learn more about her music why we didn’t know she even lived in Nashville and also learned about how she granted a wish to a very special fan at the CMT Award Show.

So everyone thinks you recently moved to Nashville but it has been almost 4 years now as you mentioned in your CMA performance, why didn’t people know you moved here?
I think what most people don’t realize is that I am first-and-foremost a music entertainer. Nashville is called “Music City” for a reason; it’s a swell of all kinds of music and I wanted to quietly embrace it. I wanted to absorb the energy, history and magic and my concentration was to write for my new project. I take my commitment to my music seriously, so I’ve been keeping a low profile (under the radar) to accomplish that. It was a good decision for me; I’ve learned a lot in the last few years about songwriting and the writing process and I’m feeling very comfortable to “step-out” now to share my music with fans new and old. I’ve lived in a lot of cities and Music City really has become “home” for so many reasons.

What made you transition from pop music to country?
I’m a southern country girl–born and raised–so I don’t feel like I’m making a transition as much as I feel like it’s my time for my music. The creative process (both in songwriting and in the studio) and story lines just seem to “fit” where I am in my career and that’s what moved me to want to record in Nashville. It just feels natural.

What was it like for you to perform at the CMA Fest?
We worked very hard to prepare for CMA Fest. It was a little intimidating–on stage among some of my favorite peers and entertainment heroes–standing before the world’s largest country music audience. It was exhilarating yet very comfortable. The country music fans and the community have rolled out the “Welcome” mat for me and I feel blessed.

You first single is out, “Fly Away.”  Can you tell us the inspiration for that song?
This song was literally born from an “everything gone wrong” kind of day–from bad hair, being out of orange juice (which is my favorite next to wine… Ha ha!)—to running into an old flame and recalling that “heck, I still love him.” At every turn, I found myself kicking myself for just not having it together…I just wanted to fly away, abandon all of my responsibilities, embarrassments and expectations. It’s the first song that I wrote here in Nashville; master crafters Josh Osborne and Matt Ramsey helped me to put the storyline to music.

Tell us about a special wish you granted as you walked the CMT Awards red carpet?
I received a message on Facebook from Debra Chernenko who introduced me to her 13-year-old daughter Allyson (Allyson suffers with Stage 4 Large B Cell Hodgkins Lymphona.) Allyson shared her wish with her mom to meet me and they had plans to come into town for CMA Fest for a couple of days. I wanted to go one-better and make our introduction a memory of a lifetime, so I invited Allyson to join me as “my date” on the CMT Awards red carpet. We did it right–she rode in the limo with me and she became a little star in her own right with the media. Allyson is extraordinary and she’s given me an experience that I know I will never forget.

See Brooke with Allyson on the red carpet.
