4.Heather
After several years working in a major department store with an active lifestyle, Heather’s health suddenly became worse. She was diagnosed with a rare disease that causes fluid retention and weight gain called lymphedema. Along with these symptoms, she also began having seizures. Due to the condition of her health, she wasn’t able to walk, stand, or even generally work long periods of time, and she was forced to apply for state disability. She helped with her mother’s gallery, eventually moving to Nashville in 2003, but when her mother died in 2014, she needed to do something to get her active lifestyle back and cover the gap between disability and how much her bills actually cost. She faced rejections from several companies simply because of her health. After seeing Goodwill’s commercials for help finding work, she went and applied for a job with them. She now holds a part-time cashier job with Goodwill. Without the job provided by them, she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the required bills, but with Goodwill she was able to not only catch up, but gain confidence from being able to work again. For her whole story, go here.
